Insulin is a hormone whose job is to manage the body’s usage and storage of sugar and fat
Helps move sugar into the cells
If we have a lot of sugar and therefore have a large amount of insulin in our systems, overtime the insulin becomes less effective at moving sugar into cells. First insulin will just go up to try and lower your blood sugar, but eventually it starts not being able to keep up and the cells start to resist taking in more sugar
Blood sugar levels go up
This can lead to pre-diabetes and Type II diabetes
Can also cause damage to blood vessels and then the body forms “plaques” to repair the damage
Insulin resistance can go unnoticed for years and can affect your hormones, metabolism, mood and overall inflammation levels
We want to avoid blood sugar spikes by eating in a way that keeps blood sugar levels more stable
Protein, fat and fiber
Reducing sugar
Blood sugar is even worse with stress
Diabetes tends to worsen over time and lead to the need for more medications that don’t solve the problem but try to help the body manage the symptoms
Increases risk of heart attack, stroke, obesity, chronic nerve pain, kidney disease and even amputations due to slow wound healing and loss of sensation in the limbs.
